New Music Seminar Member Discount Available
The New Music Seminar is coming to Chicago on Oct. 6 at the Park West in Chicago and will feature a keynote address by Michael Spiegelman, general manager, Yahoo Music. In addition to a day-long seminar, the event will also include networking opportunities, a cocktail reception and after-show party. GRAMMY University Network
The GRAMMY University Network (GRAMMY U) is a unique and fast-growing community of college students who are pursuing a career in the music industry. The Recording Academy created GRAMMY U to help prepare students for careers in the recording industry through networking, educational programs and performance opportunities. GRAMMY U is designed to enhance students' current academic curriculum with access to recording industry professionals to give an "out of classroom" perspective on the recording industry.

Members of GRAMMY U enjoy many of the benefits offered to The Academy's voting, associate and affiliate members, but at a quarter of the cost of membership. Annual membership in GRAMMY U is $25, compared to the $100 membership.

Internship Program
The Chapter offers paid internships for college students preparing for careers in the music or recording industry. All applicants must currently be studying music or a music industry-related major. If you are interested in the internship program, please e-mail Maurice Kalous at maurice.kalous@grammy.com.

The application process for our fall internship has passed. We will not be accepting applications for internships again until mid-fall.

The GRAMMY Foundation
The GRAMMY Foundation cultivates the understanding, appreciation and advancement of the contribution of recorded music to American culture — from the artistic and technical legends of the past to the still unimagined musical breakthroughs of future generations of music professionals. The Foundation offers programs and activities that engage the music industry and cultural community as well as the general public, and works in partnership year-round with The Recording Academy to bring national attention to important issues such as the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency of preserving our rich cultural heritage. The Chicago Chapter

In April 2008, the Chicago Chapter moved into their new office space in the River North area of Chicago. This neighborhood, home of the River North Gallery District, has the largest concentration of art galleries in the United States outside of Manhattan. Along with hundreds of art galleries, the area also plays host to a design district, as well as many popular restaurants and entertainment venues. The new office space is larger than the former space occupied by the Chapter, and includes both a large and small conference room as well as a dedicated kitchen.

In the past few years, the Chapter has continued to recognize the many different groups that comprise the region's recording industry. The Chapter has increased its membership base and hosted numerous educational seminars throughout the Midwest, thereby creating valuable opportunities for members to gain information about professional developments in their particular field. The Chapter works closely with the many established music and arts organizations, and has become an integral partner in not only the Chicago cultural community, but also in many other major cities across the Midwest.

The Chapter's professional development programs include the Midwest Professional Education Series. These cover a wide range of timely issues and topics, including home studio recording, a music critic's symposium, record promotion and marketing, and music for advertising and film. These workshops and seminars are held throughout the Midwest. In addition to this solid slate of professional development programs, the chapter also provides several other events to our members. Our Chicago Heroes Awards recognize important music professionals at an elegant tribute dinner every year. Our annual Golf Tournament, local GRAMMY Nominee Celebration, and our membership meetings also provide opportunities for our members to get together on an annual basis.
